# Install the ZED Link driver

Each ZED Link [GMSL2](/docs/products/embedded/zed-link-capture-card/gmsl2#what-is-gmsl2) capture card requires the installation of a **driver** to operate correctly.

The driver is responsible for configuring the [GMSL2](/docs/products/embedded/zed-link-capture-card/gmsl2#what-is-gmsl2) device and depends on the hardware used, such as the Jetson™ carrier board, the deserializer card, and other configurations related to [GMSL2](/docs/products/embedded/zed-link-capture-card/gmsl2#what-is-gmsl2) cameras.

## Install the ZED Link driver

The driver can be downloaded from the [ZED X Camera Drivers](https://www.stereolabs.com/developers/drivers) page of the StereoLabs website.

> **Note**
>
> Please make sure to check the latest version of the driver available on the [ZED X Camera Drivers](https://www.stereolabs.com/developers/drivers) page. If the website features an updated version, we recommend installing the latest one.

Select the driver corresponding to your configuration and run:

```bash
sudo dpkg -i stereolabs-zedlink-<model>_<version>-<deser>-all-L4T<l4t_version>_arm64.deb
```

Where:

* `<model>` is the *ZED Link [GMSL2](/docs/products/embedded/zed-link-capture-card/gmsl2#what-is-gmsl2) capture card model* (e.g., `mono`, `duo`, `quad`)
* `<version>` is the *driver version*
* `<deser>` identifies the *deserializer* of the capture card (e.g., `LI-MAX96712`)
* `<l4t_version>` is the *Jetson™ Linux (L4T) version*

> **Note**
>
> The drivers for JetPack 5 use the older naming scheme `stereolabs-zedx_X.X.X-ZED-LINK-YYYY-L4TZZ.Z_arm64.deb`, where `YYYY` is the capture card model (e.g., `MONO`, `DUO`, `QUAD`).

> **Note**
>
> You might need to install `libqt5core5a` if not already installed. Use the following command:
>
> ```bash
> sudo apt install libqt5core5a
> ```

#### How to select the correct driver

1. Verify the model of capture card you are using: [ZED Link Mono](https://www.stereolabs.com/store/products/zed-link-capture-card-mono), [ZED Link Duo](https://www.stereolabs.com/store/products/zed-link-capture-card), [ZED Link Quad](https://www.stereolabs.com/store/products/zed-link-capture-card-quad).

   * **\[Legacy, out of production]** The first ZED Box Orin NX 8 GB with GMSL2 mounts a **ZED Link Mono** capture card, and the first ZED Box Orin NX 16 GB with GMSL2 mounts a **ZED Link Duo** capture card. Current [ZED Box Orin](/docs/products/embedded/zed-box-orin/) units provide four GMSL2 ports as a standard feature and use a dedicated ZED Box driver package.

2. Verify the version of Jetson™ Linux running on your NVIDIA® Jetson™ device by following [this guide](https://support.stereolabs.com/hc/en-us/articles/20818240553367-What-is-the-version-of-the-OS-running-on-my-ZED-Box-or-NVIDIA-Jetson-embedded-PC)

3. **\[Only JetPack 5]** Verify the model of the [GMSL2](/docs/products/embedded/zed-link-capture-card/gmsl2#what-is-gmsl2) camera you are using: ZED X (Mini), ZED X One GS, ZED X One 4K

> **Note**
>
> It is not possible to simultaneously use different camera models in hybrid configurations with JetPack 5.x. However, this capability is available starting from driver v1.1.0 for JetPack 6.

For example, run the following command to install the driver for the ZED Link Duo on an NVIDIA® Jetson™ devkit running L4T v36.4.0 (JetPack 6.1):

```bash
sudo dpkg -i stereolabs-zedlink-duo_1.3.2-LI-MAX96712-all-L4T36.4.0_arm64.deb
```

Now, **reboot** the NVIDIA® Jetson™ device.

```bash
sudo reboot
```

You can use the following command to check that the driver is correctly loaded:

```bash
sudo dmesg | grep zedx
```

Please note that [GMSL2](/docs/products/embedded/zed-link-capture-card/gmsl2#what-is-gmsl2) cameras have lower flexibility compared to USB cameras. Any modification in the **hardware configuration**, such as plugging or unplugging a camera, or changing the camera order, requires either **rebooting the Jetson**, or restarting the installed daemon with the following command:

```bash
sudo systemctl restart zed_x_daemon
```

If you encounter any issues during the installation process, please refer to the [GMSL2 troubleshooting page](/docs/products/embedded/zed-link-capture-card/gmsl2/troubleshooting), or contact [support@stereolabs.com](mailto:support@stereolabs.com).

## Upgrade the ZED Link driver

If you want to upgrade the driver from a previous version, or you want the driver for a different camera model, you must first uninstall the currently installed version:

```bash
sudo dpkg -r stereolabs-zedXXXX
```

To retrieve the correct name of the package to remove, you can use the command:

```bash
dpkg -l | grep stereolabs
```

Once the old driver is removed, you can [install a new one](#install-the-zed-link-driver).
