ZED Box 2
Congratulations on being the owner of a brand-new ZED Box 2 embedded PC!
StereoLabs’ ZED Box 2 is a compact, rugged edge AI computer powered by NVIDIA® Jetson™ Orin™ NX modules with native support for NVIDIA® Super Mode. It is designed for large-scale, multi-camera vision and robotics deployments: it aggregates up to 8 GMSL2 cameras, and its CAN, Ethernet, and digital I/O interfaces integrate it directly into robotic, automotive, and industrial automation systems.
Main features
The ZED Box 2 is a ready-to-use edge AI system: an NVIDIA® Jetson™ Orin™ NX compute module running in Super Mode, 8 native GMSL2 camera inputs, and industrial-grade I/O in a passively cooled aluminum enclosure, with an optional fan.
Compute module
The ZED Box 2 is available with two NVIDIA® Jetson™ Orin™ NX compute modules, so you can match the computing power to the requirements of your application:
Super Mode raises the maximum GPU and DLA frequencies of the Orin NX module, delivering up to 67% more AI performance than the standard power modes. Read the Power Modes guide to select the mode that fits your application.
GMSL2 camera connectivity
GMSL2 connectivity is a standard feature of the ZED Box 2. It enables high-speed, low-latency, hardware-synchronized data transfer between the processing unit and your ZED GMSL2 cameras.
- 8 GMSL2 ports on two Quad FAKRA-Z connectors, 4 ports each.
- Compatible with all the ZED X and ZED X One camera models: ZED X, ZED X Mini, ZED X Nano, ZED X One GS, ZED X One S, and ZED X One 4K.
- Up to 8 stereo cameras at HD1200 30 FPS, or 4 at HD1200 60 FPS; up to 8 monocular cameras at HD1200 60 FPS; up to 4 ZED X One 4K at 4K 15 FPS.
- The GMSL2 driver is pre-installed. Connect the cameras before powering on the device: GMSL2 cameras are not hot-pluggable.
The Using GMSL guide describes the supported multi-camera configurations, and how to synchronize the cameras with each other and with other devices.
Connectivity
The connection ports are available on the front and rear panels, described in the Connectivity guide:
- 2x Quad GMSL2 FAKRA-Z camera connectors
- 2x Gigabit Ethernet RJ45 (10/100/1000 Base-T)
- 2x CAN bus (DB9 connectors)
- 1x Sync + IO connector (DB9) for camera frame-sync trigger input/output and 1x configurable digital I/O
- 2x USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A
- 1x HDMI 2.1
- 1x Micro USB 2.0 Type-B for system flashing, OTG, and serial console access
- WiFi 6 (Intel AX210 module) with 2x external antennas
- 1x 12V fan power header
- Recovery and Reset buttons, power LED
Storage memory
An internal M.2 NVMe SSD hosts the operating system and your data. Three capacities are available:
- 256 GB
- 1 TB
- 2 TB
Power supply
The ZED Box 2 is powered through a screwable 2-pin terminal block DC input, accepting 10V to 32V, with a maximum power consumption of 80W (55W typical). The wide input range allows direct connection to 12V and 24V vehicle and robot power rails. See the Connectivity guide for the pinout.
Cooling
The ZED Box 2 features a passively cooled aluminum enclosure with an integrated heatsink and no moving parts. For sustained high-power workloads, an optional fan kit can be mounted on the heatsink and connected to the 12V fan header, as described in the installation guide.
Software
The ZED Box 2 is shipped with a pre-configured operating system, including the NVIDIA® JetPack™ software stack, the ZED SDK, and the GMSL2 drivers, so it is operational out of the box. Flashing is only required to change the JetPack version or to recover the device. The flashing guide, with updated flash scripts, will be available soon.
